Rob Murphy

Professional Scout, Ottawa Senators

Robert Murphy was born on April 7th, 1969 in Hull.  He played his Junior hockey in Laval for the Titan, in the QMJHL and was the top pick, 24th overall, for the Vancouver Canucks in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.  In his 1989-1990 season with the Milwaukee Admirals, Murphy accumulated 71 points in 64 games earning him the IHL Rookie of the Year title.  The following season he played 42 games with the Vancouver Canucks.  In the 1992 NHL Expansion Draft, Murphy was claimed by the Ottawa Senators. He appeared in 44 games and recorded 10 points. In 1993 he signed as a free agent with the LA Kings where he finished his NHL career.  He continued to play pro hockey but with Germany in the DEL.  Murphy spent six years in Germany before officially retiring in 2003. After retirement, Murphy stayed close to the pro hockey world and became a sports analyst on both television and radio in Ottawa.  In 2007 Murphy began his scouting career with the Phoenix Coyotes and served three seasons as an amateur scout based in the Ottawa area.  He is now part of the Ottawa Senators scouting organization and his responsibilities include scouting upcoming team opponents and evaluating players at the National Hockey League, American Hockey League and collegiate levels.
