Dan Frawley was a hard-working right-winger who enjoyed a lengthy professional career mainly thanks to heart and desire. These two qualities tied with the ability to lead by example on the ice made him an asset in nearly 300 NHL games in the 1980’s. Frawley was always the hardest working player on every team he played. Dan “Frawls” Frawley was mostly known, and is still remembered, for his physical play. Born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Frawley played junior with the Sudbury Wolves and Cornwall Royals of the OHA. Frawley was chosen 204th overall by the Chicago Black Hawks at the 1980 Entry Draft. In 1985, the Pittsburgh Penguins picked up Frawley on waivers. He enjoyed four solid years with the Pens.
Dan was named captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1987 before handing it over to Mario Lemieux due to an injury that kept him out of the lineup.
In 1989 Frawls returned to the AHL, and played with the Rochester Americans, winning the 1996 Calder Cup.He retired from professional hockey in 1998. In 2003, Dan was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame. Dan is currently the Youth Hockey Coordinator in Chisasibi, Québec.
