Marc Methot

Defenseman, Ottawa Senators, #3

Marc Methot was born on June 21^st, 1985 and raised in Ottawa, Ontario.  He played Major Junior with the London Knights of the OHL from 2002 to 2005.  He was part of the franchise when they won their very first Memorial Cup in 2005 against Sydney Crosby and the Rimouski Oceanic.   Drafted 168^th overall, Methot made his NHL debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2006 and became a regular on the team’s blueline in 2008.  In July 2011 he signed a four-year contract extension with the team. Methot’s speed and size also made him an important player on Team Canada during the 2011 and 2012 World Championships.  During the summer of 2012, Methot was traded to his hometown team, the Ottawa Senators. After starting the 2012-2013 season with Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson as a D- partner, Methot was charged with securing the team’s defence when his partner suffered a season-ending achilles injury.  Methot’s efforts paid off as the Senators finished the year with the second lowest goals-against average.  His outstanding defensive perspicacity also let to an invite to the Canadian Olympic training camp in the summer of 2013.  Methot is a respected teammate with strong leadership qualities.  Marc is without a doubt an underrated player who constantly displays great commitment to playing a wide-ranging, stay-at-home game and rarely makes mistakes in his zone.
